Sweden uses a centralised application portal. SOP, transcripts, English proof, motivation letter per program. Apply to up to 4 programs in priority order.

Admission and tuition payment

8 to 14 weeks

Sweden announces admissions on a fixed cycle (Apr for autumn intake). Conditional admission requires tuition payment to confirm seat. Then unconditional offer.

Migrationsverket visa application

8 to 12 weeks

Swedish student visa via Migrationsverket online portal. Spouse dependant visa filed in parallel. Financial proof of SEK 9,450 per month for the duration of studies.

Sweden questions Kerala families ask.

Is the spouse work permit truly automatic? +
Yes, if the spouse is named on the dependant residence permit, full work rights are granted from day of arrival in Sweden. You do not need to wait for a separate work permit application. This is rare and a unique Swedish policy.
Is IELTS required for Sweden? +
Most English-taught Masters require IELTS 6.5 overall, some accept 6.0. PTE and TOEFL also accepted. Cokonet runs IELTS prep. Sweden does not require Swedish for English-taught programs.
How does the centralised application work? +
universityadmissions.se is Sweden's national portal. You list up to 4 programs in priority order. Decisions come on a fixed schedule (March/April for August intake). Once admitted, you pay tuition deposit to confirm. Cokonet handles the full process.
What about post-study work in Sweden? +
Sweden gives international graduates 1 year post-study to find a job. After finding a qualifying job, you switch to a work permit. 4 years of total residence makes you eligible for PR under current rules. 5 years for citizenship. Note: Sweden is phasing out permanent residence permits from 12 July 2026 — for students applying through us in 2026 onwards, we map the most recent rules at the time of application.
Is Sweden affordable? +
Higher cost than Eastern Europe, similar to UK or Netherlands. Stockholm is most expensive. Smaller cities like Lund, Gothenburg, Linkoping are more affordable. Total Masters cost runs INR 26 to 38 lakh.
