Cokonet Overseas does not run a permanent office in Kollam, but Kollam is one of our highest-volume catchment districts. Students from TKM College of Engineering, the Karunagappally and Perumon engineering colleges, and the nursing colleges across Punalur and Sasthamcotta find us through a mix of monthly camp days in Kollam, video counselling from our Trivandrum head office, and walk-in visits to Trivandrum (which is a 70-minute train ride away).
1.How we serve Kollam students
Three channels:
- Monthly camp days in Kollam, usually at partner college venues. Senior counsellors from our Trivandrum head office travel up for full-day clinics. We post the schedule on our events page and in the local college placement cells we partner with. Walk-ins welcome on camp days.
- Video counselling from the Trivandrum head office, available six days a week. Identical service to in-person, including loan structuring, German language placement test, IELTS diagnostic, and visa filing.
- Trivandrum head office visits. Our office at Peedikayil Chambers, Ulloor Junction, is a 70 to 90 minute train ride from Kollam Junction (multiple trains daily) or 90 minutes by bus on NH-66. Walk-ins welcome Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
For complex cases (Healthcare-to-Germany pathway, NRI co-applicant loan structuring, visa appeals), we usually recommend an initial video call followed by an in-person session at Trivandrum or on the next Kollam camp day, whichever comes first.
2.Kollam students we work with most often
The Kollam district has a distinctive student mix because of its concentration of engineering colleges along the coastal belt and nursing colleges in the eastern hill regions.
TKM College of Engineering graduates
TKMCE Karicode is Kerala's oldest aided engineering college (1958) and the dominant feeder for technical Masters applications from Kollam. TKM students typically arrive with strong KEAM ranks and clear branch specialisations. The common Masters destinations: Canadian universities (Toronto, Waterloo, McGill), UK Russell Group, USA STEM programmes. TKM Institute of Technology at Ezhukone graduates also come through this channel.
College of Engineering Perumon, Karunagappally, Kottarakkara, Bishop Jerome graduates
Government and aided engineering colleges spread across the district. These students often arrive with realistic budget constraints and value-conscious destination preferences. Germany (low tuition, B1 to B2 prep), Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands tend to come up early alongside the standard Canada and UK shortlist. Many also consider the UAE branch-campus route for tax-free salary outcomes.
Punalur, Sasthamcotta, and east-Kollam nursing graduates
The Kollam district produces a significant number of BSc Nursing graduates each year through the nursing colleges at Punalur, Sasthamcotta, and the smaller institutions along the Kollam-Kottarakkara belt. For these students, our flagship Healthcare-to-Germany pathway is the most common request. UK NMC, Ireland NMBI, and the Gulf hospital routes also come up.
Returning Gulf-NRK families
Kollam district has one of the highest concentrations of returning Gulf-based families in Kerala. Many use the savings from a 5 to 15 year Gulf posting to fund a child's overseas education. We get NRI co-applicant loan files often from this catchment, structured for both Indian and Gulf-based earnings. Common destinations: Canada, UK, Australia (where family migration is the long-term goal).
3.Useful Kollam resources for outbound students
NORKA-ROOTS Cell Kollam
The Kollam district NORKA cell handles routine Triple Win applications, Kerala State Overseas Student ID card, and Pravasi insurance services.
Address: Civil Station NORKA ROOTS, Room No 41, Corporation Shopping Complex, Polayathodu, Kollam 691001. Phone: 0474-2791373, 8281004902. Email: [email protected]. Toll-free: 1800 425 3939. The Trivandrum head office (NORKA Center, Thycaud) remains the formal headquarters for Triple Win cohort intake; the Kollam cell handles in-district routine services.
IELTS, PTE, OET test centres
British Council and IDP operate authorised IELTS test centres in Kollam. PTE Academic centres are limited in Kollam itself; many Kollam students travel to Trivandrum (90 minutes) or sometimes Kochi (3 hours) for PTE if they prefer that test. OET (for nurses and doctors) is available at OET-authorised centres in Trivandrum, which is the practical location for Kollam-based candidates. Book directly through British Council India, IDP India, Pearson PTE, or OET official websites.
Passport office and PCC
Passport applications and renewals for Kollam residents are handled at the Regional Passport Office, Trivandrum, with PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) branches available for local appointments. PCCs for visa applications are issued by the Commissioner of Police, Kollam, typically taking 5 to 10 working days. Apply for PCC during the loan-application week to avoid sequencing delays.
Transport to Trivandrum head office
From Kollam Junction to Thiruvananthapuram Central by train: 70 to 90 minutes depending on the train type. Trains run frequently throughout the day. KSRTC buses on the NH-66 route take 90 to 110 minutes. From Trivandrum Central to our office at Ulloor Junction: 20 to 30 minutes by auto. Total door-to-door from Kollam city to our office: 2.5 to 3 hours each way.
4.How counselling works for Kollam students
The first counselling session is free and lasts 60 to 90 minutes, either via video call or in person at Trivandrum or on a Kollam camp day. By the end, you should know which 3 to 5 destinations realistically fit your profile, the rough total budget for each, and the timeline to departure.
For Kollam-based applicants, two practical points:
- First call free over video. Most Kollam students start with a video call from home or college, then come to Trivandrum or attend a camp day only after they have a written placement plan. This saves a full day of travel and lets the family discuss internally before committing.
- Document collection on camp days. When we run a Kollam camp day, we can collect physical documents (mark sheets, passport copies, employment letters for NRI co-applicants) and start the loan and visa file work immediately. Otherwise documents can be sent securely via email or our online portal.
5.Services available to Kollam students
Same as the Trivandrum head office and Kochi branch:
- Overseas placement counselling across all 22 destinations.
- Language training (German A1 to C1, French A1 to B2, IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo, OET) via online cohorts; in-person at Trivandrum or Kochi.
- Healthcare-to-Germany pathway end-to-end.
- Education loan structuring with dual-lender applications.
- Visa filing for all 22 destinations.
- Cokonet Academy tech training bonus: ₹1L worth of SAP, Data Analytics, Cloud, Digital Marketing, or UI/UX, free for placement clients (online or at Trivandrum).
