Shruthi Sreedhar is Director of Language Training at Cokonet, with responsibility for the in-house language faculty across eight programmes. She leads the German A1 to C1 track (the largest by enrolment), French A1 to B2, plus the four English proficiency tracks: IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo, and the healthcare-specific OET.
She serves as Cokonet's institutional liaison with the Goethe-Institut and TELC. Her academic background is in applied linguistics, with a particular focus on CEFR-aligned methodology, the framework used for European language certifications. On this site, she authors the destination comparisons, language-test comparisons, and the intake-timeline guides for major university intakes.
1.Current role
As Director of Language Training, Shruthi Sreedhar owns four areas:
- In-house language faculty. Hires, trains, and manages the 30+ language trainers across both offices. The faculty covers eight programmes from absolute-beginner A1 German to C1 advanced.
- The Healthcare German cohort. Personally hired and trained the B2 and C1 German cohort that serves the Healthcare-to-Germany pathway. This is the highest-stakes track because graduates need to pass telc B2 Pflege or Goethe B2 to earn German Berufserlaubnis.
- Institutional partnerships. The Goethe-Institut and TELC institutional relationships for Kerala. These allow Cokonet to host certified exams and access teacher training materials.
- Pedagogy and curriculum. CEFR-aligned methodology across all 8 programmes. Mock test development for IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL. Course material updates as exam patterns evolve.
2.Background and expertise
Background in applied linguistics. Worked in language pedagogy before joining Cokonet, with focus on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) which underpins all European language certifications including Goethe (German), DELF/DALF (French), and broadly informs IELTS and PTE band descriptors.
The CEFR specialty matters operationally because the Healthcare-to-Germany pathway depends on getting Kerala BSc Nursing graduates from zero German to certified B2 in 8 to 12 months. This is an unusual learning curve in language teaching: long timelines and high stakes (visa denial if you fail). Designing curriculum that gets adult learners through this curve reliably is what her faculty trains and tests on.
3.Programmes overseen
German (A1 to C1)
The largest cohort, including the healthcare-specific track. Aligned to Goethe-Zertifikat and telc certification standards. Includes telc B2 Pflege (Pflegerische Berufssprache) for nurses heading to Germany. Trivandrum and Kochi batches both run with rotating intensive and weekend formats.
French (A1 to B2)
DELF and DALF aligned. Required for France-bound students, and useful for Canadian PR points (French-speaking applicants get bonus CRS points under Express Entry).
English proficiency tests
IELTS Academic and General, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, and Duolingo English Test. Mock-test programmes, structured prep schedules, and writing-feedback loops because writing is the single biggest score blocker for Kerala students. OET is the healthcare-specific English test for UK NMC and Australian AHPRA registration.
