OET (Occupational English Test) is the English exam specifically designed for nurses, doctors, dentists, and allied healthcare. Every scenario is healthcare-themed: patient interviews, ward rounds, clinical notes. UK NHS, Australia AHPRA, NZ NCNZ, Ireland NMBI all accept OET in place of IELTS.
Sit in on one class, no obligation. We have batches starting every Monday at both Trivandrum and Kochi centres.
Listening exam: doctor-patient consultations and ward rounds. Reading: NHS guidelines and medical journals. Writing: patient referral letters. Speaking: role-play as a clinician with a real patient actor. Much more relevant than IELTS for nurses.
UK NHS (Nursing and Midwifery Council), Australia (AHPRA), New Zealand (NCNZ), Ireland (NMBI), and Singapore (SNB) all accept OET in place of IELTS for healthcare worker registration. Some prefer it over IELTS.
Most nursing councils require Grade B (350+ out of 500) in all four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking. Equivalent to IELTS 7.0 overall. Achievable in 6-8 weeks of focused prep at our centre.
Each level builds on the previous one. Most Kerala students start at A1 unless they already have some background.
Three parts: Patient consultations, ward audio (lectures, briefings), shorter healthcare scenarios. Note-taking under time pressure, accent variations (British / Australian / Indian English mix).
Three parts: quick-scan healthcare texts (NHS guidelines, drug leaflets), longer journal articles, summary-completion tasks. Medical terminology assumed but not technical.
One task: write a referral letter, discharge summary, or transfer note based on case notes provided. Tests how you summarise patient information in professional written English. Most students lose points here.
Two role-plays with a trained interlocutor playing a patient. You play your professional role (nurse, doctor). Tested on empathy, clinical communication, listening, fluency. Examiners are trained healthcare professionals.
A senior faculty member will walk you through the right level for your goal, batch options, and pricing.
