OET is built for healthcare.

OET (Occupational English Test) is the English exam specifically designed for nurses, doctors, dentists, and allied healthcare. Every scenario is healthcare-themed: patient interviews, ward rounds, clinical notes. UK NHS, Australia AHPRA, NZ NCNZ, Ireland NMBI all accept OET in place of IELTS.

Why this language

Three reasons it pays off.

Healthcare-specific

Everything is healthcare scenarios

Listening exam: doctor-patient consultations and ward rounds. Reading: NHS guidelines and medical journals. Writing: patient referral letters. Speaking: role-play as a clinician with a real patient actor. Much more relevant than IELTS for nurses.

FAQ

Common questions Kerala students ask.

Is OET easier or harder than IELTS for nurses?+
Easier, for nurses. Every question is healthcare-themed. You already know the vocabulary, the contexts, and the professional norms. Most Kerala nursing graduates who fail IELTS the first time pass OET on their first attempt.
What grade do I need for UK NMC registration?+
Grade B (350+ out of 500) in all 4 sections. The UK NMC may accept Grade C+ in Writing for some applicants with verifiable English-medium education, but Grade B across the board is the safe target.
How long is OET valid?+
Two years from the exam date for visa and registration purposes. Most nursing councils require the score to be less than 2 years old at the time of registration application, not at the time of decision.
Where do I take the OET exam in Kerala?+
OET is delivered through Pearson VUE testing centres. Both Trivandrum and Kochi have Pearson VUE centres. The exam happens multiple times a month. Booking is direct via the OET official website. We do not handle exam fees or bookings.
Is the speaking section really role-play with an actor?+
Yes. A trained interlocutor (often a former nurse or doctor) plays the patient role. They follow a script but adapt to your responses. You're tested on listening, clinical reasoning, empathy, and fluency. Much more realistic than IELTS Speaking.
I am a doctor, not a nurse. Is OET still right for me?+
Yes. OET has dedicated versions for nurses, doctors, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and 7 other healthcare professions. Content is tailored to your profession. Doctors typically need Grade B for GMC (UK) or AHPRA (Australia) registration too.
