Skim-then-scan strategy, vocabulary-in-context (no dictionary use), paraphrase patterns, time management (17.5 mins per passage).

University lecture recordings (3-5 mins each) followed by questions. Plus academic conversations. Plays ONCE. Note-taking is essential.

Do US universities still prefer TOEFL over IELTS? +

Most accept both equally now. Top-tier US graduate programs (Ivy League, Stanford, MIT) generally treat TOEFL and IELTS as equivalent. However, a small number of US universities still list TOEFL as their default and ask you to specifically inquire about IELTS. If you're targeting US-only, TOEFL is the safer pick.

What is the lowest score I need for a US Masters? +

Varies by university. Public state universities often accept 79-80. Mid-tier private universities want 90-94. Top-50 universities ask for 100+. Top-20 universities want 105+ with no section below 24. Funded PhD programs typically want 110+.

How long is TOEFL valid? +

Two years from the test date. Plan your test to be valid through your university application deadlines.

Can I take TOEFL Home Edition? +

Yes, ETS offers TOEFL iBT Home Edition, taken on your computer with a webcam and an online proctor. Same content, same scoring, accepted by most universities. We prepare students for both formats.

What does TOEFL cost? +

₹17,500 paid directly to ETS for the exam. Coaching at Cokonet ranges ₹10,000 to ₹16,000 depending on format. Total first-attempt cost: ₹27,500 to ₹33,500.

How is TOEFL Speaking scored? +

AI scoring with human moderation. Speaking responses (45-60 second recordings) are evaluated on delivery, language use, and topic development. Scores are 0-4 per response, scaled to the 0-30 section score. Indian accents are not penalized; clarity and structure matter most.

Should I take TOEFL or IELTS if I am applying to both US and UK? +

Both accept both. If your applications are roughly 50/50, choose by your strengths. IELTS suits students who speak fluently with examiners and prefer paper-based reading.
